Global rigid packaging products supplier Crown Holdings’ Mexican operations have been awarded the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V2 certification.

This certification forms part of Crown’s Twentyby30 sustainability programme, which aims to enhance transparency and product stewardship throughout the life cycle of its products.

The ASI CoC Standard V2 verification covers the production of beverage cans, can ends, and roll-on-pilfer-proof (ROPP) closures at Crown’s facilities in Mexico.

The company’s facilities in Guadalajara, Ensenada, Toluca, and Monterrey, boast a combined annual production capacity of 6.85 billion beverage cans, 6.7 billion can ends, and 400 million ROPP closures.

In 2022, these facilities received the Performance Standard V2 (2017).

Crown Mexico president Eduardo Argueta said: “Across all of our facilities in Mexico, we are mindful of the materials we utilise and how our products make their way through the market, as we understand our responsibility extends beyond our own manufacturing lines.

“We are honoured that ASI has verified our practices for alignment with the CoC Standard, as we always aim to meet the industry’s highest expectations for ethics and corporate stewardship.”

The audit of Crown’s Mexican facilities was conducted by DNV Business Assurance Services UK.

Crown has also received ASI Performance Standard verification in Brazil and Thailand.

In September last year, Crown earned the ASI Performance Standard certification for its beverage can facility in Tocancipá, Colombia.

The company is pursuing verification in other regions to solidify its global sustainability footprint.
