Crown Food Europe has developed Peelfit, a new metal can specifically designed for the dry food market.

Produced in the UK, the can will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2016, and is designed to provide enhanced convenience and protection to packed items.

Direct heat sealing technology (DHS) has been used to seal peelable foil directly to a collapsed bead inside the can.

Customers can also fill products through the base of the can, without making changes to the filling line.

Peelfit is a available in a variety of sizes and with a range of decorative additions, such as matte, gloss and soft touch, as well as holographic and metallic inks.

The company said that Peelfit eliminates the rigid steel rings required by double seaming applications, making it 16% lighter than cans using conventional foil seam closures.

Furthermore, the DHS technology reduces energy consumption by 32%, compared to other foil seam closures.

Peelfitplus also allows the foil to be placed at a lower point along the can wall, creating a chamber between the foil and the container cap.
