Foodservice packaging brand Eco-Products, a portfolio company of Novolex, has received CMA-windrow technology approval (CMA-W) for its Vanguard clamshell.

Vanguard clamshell is the first moulded fibre item to contain no perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

The packaging measures nine inches and has three compartments.

Made from reclaimed and renewable moulded fibre, the Vanguard line products are microwave-friendly, cut-resistant and suitable for takeaway and delivery.

The CMA-W certification was granted by the Compost Manufacturing Alliance (CMA) and is an industry first for compostable packaging with no PFAS.

CMA compliance director Janet Thoman said: “Eco Products’ certification provides the CMA network of windrow processors with products that not only meet lab and field disintegration standards, but also fill a critical void in the supply chain for PFAS-compliant fibre materials.

“We applaud Eco-Products’ diligent efforts to create products that work for consumers and composters.”

Eco-Products provides foodservice packaging made from renewable and recycled resources.

The company offers plates, bowls, trays, containers and portion cups that are made from renewable and post-consumer recycled resources.

The CMA provides field disintegration testing and expects results for additional Vanguard items later this year.

Eco-Products president Ian Jacobson said: “Eco-Products is proud to be an industry leader in offering the very best, most innovative products made from renewable and recycled materials.

“CMA’s approval of this item continues to distinguish Vanguard as the premier option in the no-added PFAS product category.”

Eco-Products’ Vanguard clamshell previously achieved Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) Certification and the GreenScreen Silver designation in 2021.

Last year, the brand introduced a compostable wax paper wrap suitable for takeaway and delivery.

The wrap complies with ASTM D6868 certifications and is certified as compostable in commercial facilities by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).

It is suitable for containing sandwiches and compatible with both hot and cold snacks and other food items.
