UK-based Firstan Quality Packaging has invested £6m to procure two Komori 18,000sph presses.

A six-colour Lithrone GX40 with coater was installed last December, while a multi-unit Lithrone GX40RP with reverse printing and coating press will be installed by the end of May.

The presses include the inline Komori PDF Comparator, which checks every element of the printed sheet against the proof automatically, thereby finding even the smallest discrepancies.

"The GX40 has virtually doubled our productivity in its early stages so we're looking for it to do more than that moving forwards."

This is particularly beneficial as the company manufactures foreign and multilingual versions of packaging.

In addition, the presses come with non-stop feeder and delivery pile logistics systems, which convey stock to and from the press and transport pallets that are empty from feeder to delivery so that they can be reused.

Firstan Quality Packaging production director Paul Hartwig said: "The GX40 has virtually doubled our productivity in its early stages so we're looking for it to do more than that moving forwards."

Firstan Quality Packaging managing director Andrew Hartwig said: "Komori Corporation's own environmental conscientiousness in incorporating so many energy-conserving initiatives into its high-technology Tsukuba factory, its press manufacturing and assembly processes and into its press design certainly contributed towards our decision to place the order with Komori for the two new Lithrones."

While Firstan Pharmaceutical manufactures pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging, Firstan Quality Packaging supplies cartons and sleeves to food, confectionery, cosmetics and beverage sectors.
