Indian e-commerce retailer Flipkart has developed an ‘anti-theft’ packaging solution to prevent the tampering, theft and mismanagement of shipped products.

Currently awaiting patent, the new pilferage protection packaging box comes with multiple protective and security features, reported PTI.

It has been designed to initially pack and ship high-end products such as mobiles, cameras, tablets and watches, and would gradually expand to include other items.

Flipkart senior director Satyam Choudhary said: “Within the e-commerce industry, cases of pilferage, especially of electronic goods and high-end mobiles, have been a consistent challenge for e-commerce companies everywhere.”

Flipkart stated that the new packaging requires significant effort, time, resources and technique to open and re-seal to the original form.

“Within the e-commerce industry, cases of pilferage, especially of electronic goods and high-end mobiles, have been a consistent challenge for e-commerce companies everywhere.”

The packages feature a single quarter-opening area, inner-flap interlocking and hidden notches in the corners, reported The Hindu.

Any form of tampering on the package can be easily identified by the next supply chain person or the final customer, and they can reject the product.

The latest innovation is expected to assist Flipkart to address the pilferage issue while reducing packaging material costs and shipment volumes.

Flipkart’s new packaging comes at a time when most of the e-commerce companies in India frequently receive complaints about delivering damaged and stolen shipments.
