US-based Graphic Packaging International (GPI), along with tray sealing machinery specialist G. Mondini, has developed a new laminated vacuum skin carton to pack chilled and frozen products.
Named SlimFresh, the new easy-to-open pack is suitable for meat, fish and poultry retailers.
SlimFresh wraps two high-barrier shrink films around the meat, fish or poultry product to produce a vacuum pack.
Recently launched in the Italian protein market, the new pack also offers oxygen barrier properties and product visibility, and can be displayed vertically.
Graphic Packaging International convenience and consumer products marketing manager Nikki Clark said: “According to WRAP, 15 million tonnes of food was wasted in the UK in 2014.
“The shelf life of food products can play a key role in reducing those exceptional figures.
