Printing and packaging materials producer Al Khat Packaging subsidiary Gulf Printing and Packaging has opened a new facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone of Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), UAE.
The facility has been developed with an AED100m ($27.22m) investment and is located in the food and packaging segment in KIZAD.
Upon reaching its full capacity, the facility is expected to employ more than 200 people.
Printing and packaging equipment brands deployed to run operations at the facility include Heidelberg, Bobst, and Kohmann.
Gulf Printing and Packaging CEO Mohamed Abou Khalid said: “The new facility in KIZAD is a centrepiece of our expansion strategy.
“Located just ten kilometres away from Khalifa Port and halfway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, KIZAD allows us to be easily connected to a large number of international shipping destinations, world-class infrastructure, dedicated investor support and so much more.
“We look forward to continuing serving leading brands in the MENA region through enhanced supply chain efficiencies from our new location.”
Abu Dhabi Ports CEO Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi added: “We are confident that KIZAD’s strategic location and the services we provide will continue to facilitate the growth of Gulf Printing and Packaging and its clients by further leveraging the synergies found in our food and packaging cluster.”
Gulf Printing and Packaging has the exclusive rights to provide all print carton materials for McDonald’s in the GCC.
The company will use the facility in KIZAD to print all the packaging used by McDonald’s in the UAE and Oman.
The facility will also serve other brands in the UAE by manufacturing folding paper packaging and printing products.
The facility is expected to cater to other markets such as Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
Goods produced at the facility will be traded through Abu Dhabi Ports’ flagship port, Khalifa Port.
