Label manufacturer Herma has invested €10m to commission a new automatic roll wrapping plant in Filderstadt, Germany, to expand its self-adhesive materials business.

The investment completes the second phase of the coating plant II, which is capable of automatically picking and making ready for shipping as many as 60 stacks of rolls an hour.

Earlier, Herma completely refurbished coating plant I, which includes both slitting and wrapping operations.

With the commissioning of the new packing facility, the company now operates two separate coating plants on the same site.

Besides the wrapping facility, the investment package also includes two new slitters, and a further two that are to be purchased in the next few years.

Thomas Baumgärtner, Herma managing director and head of the self-adhesive materials, said the company hopes to launch adhesive materials with multi-layer technology.
