Royal Hordijk Packaging, a Dutch producer of sustainable plastic packaging solutions, has partnered with tech company Origin Materials to manufacture polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle caps.
With over a century of experience in packaging innovation, Hordijk has established a strong focus on sustainability and a commitment to developing circular packaging solutions.
The company provides plastic packaging for various sectors, including food, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and horticulture, serving clients in more than 25 countries.
Origin Materials CEO John Bissell said: “Hordijk combines expert manufacturing, a robust base of operations in Europe, and significant global reach.
“Further, Hordijk brings PET extruders and extrusion expertise to our operations that can drive capital cost efficiency for CapFormer lines.
“We look forward to producing billions of PET caps together and carrying packaging forward to its next evolution.”
Under the new collaboration, Hordijk will utilise PET extruders to produce extruded sheets intended for CapFormer production lines owned by Origin Materials.
These lines will convert the PET sheets into bottle caps, including tethered caps, using advanced equipment.
Hordijk CEO Rik Hennink said: “At Hordijk, we believe the future of packaging is circular, and we are committed to innovation and reducing environmental impact.
“Partnering with Origin to mass-produce PET bottle caps and investing in extrusion to scale production aligns with our mission and roadmap.
“We believe monomaterial packaging solutions produced with Origin point toward the future of high-performing, sustainable products.”
