Food packaging firm Huhtamaki is set to build a new manufacturing facility at Hämeenlinna, Finland.
Following the development, all its manufacturing operations will be transferred from its current facility to the new site.

The construction of the Hämeenlinna plant involved an €11m investment and is scheduled to begin early next year.
Huhtamaki Foodservice Nordics general manager Maisa Katila said: “Today’s busy on-the-go lifestyle increases demand for takeaway foods and drinks. This creates growth opportunities for us, and with the investment, we are better able to capture those.”
The facility is expected to commence operations in the first half of 2019.
Katila added: “Hämeenlinna is a good location for our manufacturing unit. We have skilled and experienced employees here and we source our main raw material from nearby.

A part of the investment will also be utilised to refurbish Hämeenlinna unit’s machine base and improve automation.
Huhtamaki intends to develop the new facility according to LEAN manufacturing principles in a bid to improve its competitiveness and optimise production efficiency.
The modernisation of the manufacturing facility is also expected to enhance workplace safety and ergonomics.
Huhtamaki operates 78 manufacturing units and additional 24 sales offices across 34 countries.
