Finland-based Huhtamaki has unveiled its plan to set up a new greenfield paper cup manufacturing facility in Kiev, Ukraine, as part of efforts to expand its foodservice business in Eastern Europe.
In 2002, the company made its debut in Ukraine and serves the local market by importing products mainly from its manufacturing units in Poland.
Once completed, the new facility will produce a complete range of paper cups for cold and hot drinks under Huhtamaki’s Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania business segment.
Scheduled to be operational by 2018, the facility will employ around 50 people and is expected to provide improved services to its customers.
Huhtamaki Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania executive vice-president Eric Le Lay said: “Despite the recent political and economic turbulence, the foodservice market in Ukraine is growing and the country has an important role in many of our global key customers' growth plans.
“In addition, Ukraine has an extensive transport infrastructure and is well placed to service the neighbouring countries.”
