IFCO, a manufacturer of reusable packaging containers for fresh food, has announced the expansion of its service centre network in the UK with the opening of two new facilities.

This move is set to improve customer service and increase operational efficiency through advanced automation.

The facilities also support sustainable practices within the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Strategically located in key locations, the new service centres will serve as central transportation hubs.

The first of the new service centres, located in Glasshoughton, West Yorkshire, commenced operations in March 2024, covering an area of 14,190m².

IFCO also inaugurated another service centre and its operational headquarters in Coventry in the West Midlands.

Unveiled in April 2024, the facility has a footprint of 30,270m².

These energy-efficient sites feature the latest machinery, including advanced wash lines, centrifugal drying, and sophisticated automation technologies.

IFCO’s proprietary SmartGuardian technology ensures that all processes within its automated system adhere to stringent international sanitation requirements.

The integration of automation and efficiency highlights the company’s commitment to excellence for growers and retailers.

IFCO Northern Europe supply chain director Dirk Schaich said: “Combined, our service centres in the UK have an extended capacity of servicing over 400 million units per year. This enables IFCO to meet the future growth needs of existing and future customers. By upgrading and enlarging our facilities, we aim to provide them with better service, higher quality, and increased operational efficiency.”

The expansion follows IFCO’s acquisition of BEPCO, a prominent reusable packaging pooling company based in Tallinn, Estonia, in February of this year.
