Inspection, product testing and certification company Intertek has unveiled a new packaging performance testing facility in its Grand Rapids laboratory in Michigan, US.
The facility is the company’s first International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) accredited packaging lab in North America.
Services offered by the new facility include end-to-end evaluation of product packages with a focus on design, material assessment and sustainability.
Intertek business development general manager Brian Kneibel said: “Intertek’s focus has always been to provide services that help our customers bring quality and safety to life.
“We have seen the growth of e-commerce and evolution of supply chains impact our customers in multiple ways, including packaging.
“We’re excited to offer the industry a way to help ensure the quality and sustainability of their packages as they build their e-commerce platforms and strategies to meet consumer demand for quality products purchased online.”
The facility also offers evaluation services under various standards such as ISTA, ASTM International and customised specifications of retailers and manufacturers.
According to the company, manufacturers and retailers are required to ensure the integrity of their packaging in the growing e-commerce and globalisation of supply chains.
