Brazilian dairy producer Jussara has installed Sidel's aseptic blow-fill-cap solution equipped with dry preform decontamination at its UHT milk plant in Patrocínio Paulista, São Paulo.

Thie move is in line with Jussara's strategy of brand differentiation on the shelves with new packaging.

By using Sidel's patented dry preform and cap decontamination solutions, the Combi Predis FMa and Capdis, Jussara will produce a new PET bottle to package Jussara Max, a UHT milk enriched with added calcium and vitamins.

The dry preform decontamination solution claims to generate PET savings by reducing the weight of the bottles as they do not have the thermal constraints associated with the traditional bottle-rinsing process.

"Our challenge was to create innovative and functional packaging, which was cost-efficient and sustainable to produce."

The company aims to increase its production capacity to ten million bottles a month by mid-year with the help of the bottling line that runs at a speed of 18,000bph.

Jussara owner and commercial director Laercio Barbosa said: "We were convinced by the marketing opportunity the PET bottle could offer to our UHT premium milk. Our challenge was to create innovative and functional packaging, which was cost-efficient and sustainable to produce.

"PET bottles have all the qualities necessary to meet our expectations. They give a freedom in package design to differentiate our products on the supermarket shelves. They perfectly match with the consumers' expectations, as they are user-friendly, tough and resealable. They also offer great physical product and food barrier protection benefits, retaining milk's fresh taste and vitamin content."

The 100% recyclable PET bottles offer closure tightness, extended shelf life and safety of milk and liquid dairy products throughout the supply chain.

The Jussara Max milk is distributed in full-fat, skimmed and half-skimmed versions.
