Kraft Heinz Company has committed to make all of its packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025, as part of its greater strategy to reduce environmental footprint.

The company has expanded its environmental goals to include targets for achieving greater packaging sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Kraft Heinz CEO Bernardo Hees said: “Our collective industry has a massive challenge ahead of us with respect to packaging recyclability, end-of-life recovery and single-use plastics.

“Our collective industry has a massive challenge ahead of us with respect to packaging recyclability, end-of-life recovery and single-use plastics.”

“Even though we don’t yet have all the answers, we owe it to current and future generations who call this planet ‘home’ to find better packaging solutions and actively progress efforts to improve recycling rates. That’s why Kraft Heinz is placing a heightened focus on this important environmental issue.”

Kraft Heinz’s support for a circular economy is consistent with its broader efforts to improve the sustainability of its supply chain.

As part of the sustainability goals, the company will collaborate with packaging experts and organisations to explore technical, end-of-life and infrastructure solutions.

The firm is already working with Environmental Packaging International (EPI) for consulting, tracking and other specialist services in the packaging space.

It will focus on increasing recycled content in its packaging as well as reducing the total volume of packaging used.

Furthermore, Kraft Heinz Europe is developing a fully circular solution for the recyclable Heinz Tomato Ketchup PET plastic bottle by 2022 by using recycled material.

Other companies in the consumer goods and food and beverage industries, including Unilever, Nestle, and Coca-Cola have previously made similar sustainable packaging commitments.
