British cosmetics retailer Lush, in partnership with supplier Spectra Packaging, has announced the global rollout of its certified-recycled Prevented Ocean Plastic bottles.

The latest initiative builds on Lush’s longstanding commitment to using 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate in its clear bottles for more than ten years.

The retailer has launched the transition to Prevented Ocean Plastic for its 100ml, 250ml, and 500ml product bottles in the UK.

The Prevented Ocean Plastic has been rolled out in Lush’s manufacturing sites in Germany and Croatia for these three bottle sizes.

Lush, in collaboration with its local bottle manufacturers, is further planning to introduce these Prevented Ocean Plastic bottles for North America’s and Japan’s markets later in the year.

The transition for one-litre bottles is currently underway and is expected to be completed across all Lush markets within the year, enabling the company to implement this initiative on a global scale.

According to Prevented Ocean Plastic, the plastic material used for manufacturing the new Lush bottles is collected from areas within 50km of oceans, major waterways, or coastlines in Indonesia, where it is most at risk of contributing to ocean pollution.

Lush Creative Buying’s Karolina Michalska said: “Seeing how much impact the Prevented Ocean Plastic Programme has had on the communities in areas at high risk of plastic pollution, being part of preventing tonnes of plastic from entering the oceans as well as improving transparency of the supply chain is very much fulfilling our Lusher than we found it statement.”
