Global packaging company MeadWestvaco (MWV) has launched the dual-ovenable, hermetically sealable and recyclable SmartFare package for chilled ready meals.

The company says that SmartFare dishes and bowls stay sturdy and cool to the touch from the oven to the table.

The package is designed as a drop-in solution for food processors and requires no tooling investment.

MWV says that SmartFare brings full-scale graphic design possibilities to chilled ready meal packaging.

MWV global food and beverage chief marketing and innovation officer Diane Teer said that consumer research on the new packaging suggests that the company has a shopper and consumer-inspired solution that will help its customers unlock the value of its investment by addressing consumer needs.

"Food manufacturers have invested heavily in the development of improved ingredient transparency and great-tasting new recipes over the years, but packaging hasn't kept pace," Teer added.
