Chinese dairy firm Mengniu has tripled the production capacity of its Tetra Prisma aseptic carton packs with the installation of Tetra Pak’s A3/speed filling machine.

Claimed to be one of the world’s fastest filling machines for carton packages, Tetra Pak A3 runs at a speed of 24,000 packs per hour, reducing operational cost by up to 35%.

In November 2012, Mengniu decided to purchase the machine to cope with the increasing demand for its premium flavoured milk, Latte.

Prior to the purchase of the machine, the company was operating with two filling machines at an annual production capacity of 94 million packs.

Designed as an integrated component of Tetra Pak’s fully automated iLine, the machine is available in three versions for producing Tetra Prisma aseptic portion packs at a speed of 24,000 packs per hour, and Tetra Prisma aseptic and Tetra Brik aseptic family packs at 15,000 packs per hour.

Mengniu Ma’anshan City dairy plant factory manager Gao Jianjun said: "Within ten months of installing the first Tetra Pak A3, 100 million packages had been produced on a single line, and we were able to reduce the overall operational cost for Latte by 20% in comparison with low-speed filling machines.

"Based on these results, we made the decision to order three more lines."
