Metsä Board

Finnish packaging solutions provider Metsä Board has launched two new double-coated fully bleached lightweight liners for packaging applications, Modo Northern Light Litho and Modo Northern Light Flexo.

Modo Northern Light Litho has been designed for litholamination and other offset applications, while Modo Northern Light Flexo is suitable for flexo preprint applications.

According to the company, both liner grades are suitable for microflute, and provide better whiteness, gloss and premium printing properties in lower substances.

Made from pure fresh forest fibres, the liners can be used in packaging applications for food, beautycare products and pharmaceuticals.

The liners are also suitable for consumer packaging, point of sale, shopping bags, and small or lightweight packs.

Metsä Board Linerboard Sales vice president Risto Auero said that the new coated Modo Northern Light grades have been designed to offer better printability.

"It is possible to create a very light but strong corrugated structure by using both coated and uncoated Modo Northern Light in various combinations of top and reverse side liner, and the uncoated grade as fluting," Auero added.

All Modo Northern Light grades are claimed to have better strength characteristics, both in tensile strength / elasticity and compressibility, with a low washboarding tendency.

Metsä Board’s Husum mill in Sweden, which holds PEFC and FSC chain-of-custody certification as well as environmental and quality certificates, manufactures the liners.
