It has been designed for the storage and transportation of construction materials, including dry-mix mortar materials and cement.

The two companies have worked in close coordination throughout the development of this packaging solution.

Baumit is a long-standing customer of Mondi and has helped to bring SolmixBag to the construction market for dry-mix concrete.

Baumit Dry Mix Mortar research and development head Peter Weißmann said: “Working closely with Mondi means we have been able to test and trial these bags thoroughly and the results will soon benefit new product groups.

“Our customers on building sites love the new technology due to multiple benefits – no waste and reduced dust as the two most important.”

SolmixBag has been manufactured using water-soluble kraft paper provided by Mondi. This kraft paper ensures that the bag dissolves after coming in contact with water, mainly during the mixing process.

The use of paper in this packaging solution is nearly 20% less than the industry’s standard in two-ply paper bags.

According to Mondi, the fibre in these bags integrates with the product while it is being mixed, allowing the users to simply place the bag into the mixer without the hassle of opening it up front. The bag also has the same shelf-life and strength of its predecessors.

The new in-house solution is available in standard sizes and can easily run on existing filling machines, which also ensures customers can smoothly transition from their existing solutions to this one.

Mondi international key account manager Ferdinand Muck said: “We are closely collaborating with our partners in the building material industry to eliminate waste disposal and dust, which benefits both the environment and the workers on site.”
