Paper and packaging company Mondi is ramping up the production of its EcoWicketBags at its Szada plant in Hungary.

The expansion comes in response to the growing need for sustainable packaging solutions in the home and personal care (HPC) industry.

EcoWicketBags are crafted from Mondi’s FunctionalBarrier Paper, a kraft paper that can be tailored with specific barrier properties and protective features for various product requirements.

These bags come in multiple sizes suitable for different applications, offering protection from the filling process to transportation and storage while also being a suitable choice for customer branding.

EcoWicketBags are made from renewable materials and are recyclable in standard European paper recycling mills, adhering to the 4evergreen guidelines.

With Europe’s high paper recycling rates, currently at 82%, these bags support HPC industry players in achieving their sustainability objectives as they transition to a circular economy.

The EcoWicketBags complement Mondi’s existing range of recyclable, monomaterial polymer WicketBags that align with CEFLEX recycling guidelines.

The latest expansion leverages Mondi’s integrated value chain capabilities, from paper production to coating and converting.

Mondi Consumer Flexibles sales director Piotr Barczykowski said: “Our Szada plant in Hungary is well-positioned to serve customers across Europe and we are pleased to respond to consumer and customer demands for sustainable solutions with our paper-based EcoWicketBags.”

Last week, Mondi confirmed that it was considering a possible all-share offer for its competitor DS Smith.
