Amcor Rigid Plastics USA has purchased Colombia’s Plasticos Team from Team Foods Colombia for an undisclosed sum.
The deal, which covers a Plasticos Team facility situated in Guachene, Colombia, has enabled Amcor to expand its specialty container business in Latin America.
Plasticos Team currently produces and distributes preforms, bottles, thin-wall containers, and closures.
Amcor Rigid Plastics president Mike Schmitt said: “The Latin America market continues to be an important growth area for us.
“The acquisition of Plasticos Team is important since it validates the roles of both a packaging converter and a consumer goods company working together to supply innovative products to consumers in the region.”
In addition, Team Foods Colombia has signed a long-term agreement with Amcor for the supply of rigid plastic containers.
Amcor currently has three rigid packaging plants and one flexible packaging plant in Colombia, which serve the beverage, food, home, and personal care markets.
Last month, Amcor Rigid Plastics opened a new on-site polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle manufacturing plant at Campbell Soup’s site in Paris, Texas, US.
Built with $7m fund, the plant will produce around 50 million hot-fill PET bottles annually.
With 69 facilities in 12 countries worldwide, the company currently provides rigid plastic packaging solutions for the food, beverage, spirits, personal care, home care and healthcare industries.
