O-I Packaging Solutions (O-IPS), a speciality team within O-I Glass, and Revino have launched returnable and reusable glass wine bottles in Oregon, US.

The initiative involves the production of more than 2.4 million reusable bottles by O-IPS under Revino’s return system.

The partners plan to expand the initiative to the entire west coast of the country.

O-I Glass chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer Randy Burns said: “Glass packaging for wine is made from pure and natural resources that are inert, infinitely recyclable and reliably preserve the integrity of the wine it packages.

“By extending the use phase of the glass packaging through return and refill winery partnerships, Revino is maximising the sustainability of packaging for environmentally conscious wine producers.”

Revino’s aim is to revive the reusable glass bottle ecosystem for beverage producers and consumers.

Through its end-to-end returnable glass bottle reuse system, the company delivers these glass bottles to participating wineries, which are filled using standard bottling equipment.

Once emptied, consumers can return their bottles to the original winery or any partner location, including tasting rooms and select retailers and restaurants.

Since its inception, more than 70 wineries have aligned with Revino’s mission.

Wine in Revino bottles is set to be available from mid-2024.

Revino founder Keenan O’Hern said: “In the spirit of hope and possibility, I envision a world where reusable bottles are not just a practical solution, but instead symbolise our collective determination and commitment to safeguarding our natural resources for future generations..

“Revino is more than a business venture; this is a shared journey toward a more sustainable and thriving future.”
