Czech Republic-based Obaly Morava has deployed HP's high-speed inkjet corrugated packaging solution for the digital pre-printing of high-quality corrugated liners.
The press was installed in June, making Obaly the first company in the world to use the new technology, which is based on the HP T400 simplex colour inkjet web press.
HP's packaging solution will enable the company to digitally produce pre-printed corrugated top liners in back-to-back runs on the same substrate rolls to increase efficiency. It also transfers the pre-printed rolls to its corrugators to produce boards for packaging applications.
It is capable of printing on various surfaces, including uncoated and coated corrugated substrates, premium offset media and recycled and thin liners with speeds of up to 183m(600ft)/min.
The solution includes HP priming agent technology, which comes with four-colour HP A50 aqueous pigmented CMYK inks.
Obaly Morava president Martin Rehorik said: "Market demands and the technology available are changing dramatically, and we are taking a fresh look at how to best meet our customers' needs, such as individualisation and differentiation from the competition."
The move will allow Obaly Morava to transition high-value jobs from analogue litho-lamination and flexographic processes to digital, in order to complete their production faster by reducing its environmental footprint.
Obaly Morava has also invested in near-line coater Harris & Bruno International, which will help in the optimisation of its finishing process.
HP Inkjet high-speed production solutions division vice-president and general manager Aurelio Maruggi said: "This innovative solution brings game-changing productivity, greater versatility, value-chain optimisation and more efficient production workflow to corrugators, and represents the first of a series of production inkjet innovations from HP."
Obaly Morava, a producer of corrugated boards, manufacturers up to nine-layer corrugated boards and boxes.
