Healthy Pet’s brand ökocat has enhanced its commitment to sustainability by switching to a fully recyclable paper bag for its wood-based litter product.

The brand will start transitioning to these new double-wallpaper bags from its current box packaging starting in October this year.

The new bags feature a recyclable handle, which has been designed in response to growing consumer demand.

Healthy Pet consumer communications manager Leslie Ellis said: “We are delighted to provide our customers with the same high-quality, sustainable litter they love in new 100% recyclable packaging.

“This refresh allows us to remain focused on providing the same industry-leading product but with more environmentally friendly packaging.”

Healthy Pet found through consumer research that its customers’ wanted its natural litter and ökocat products in 100% recyclable packaging, in line with their choice for cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable litter.

ökocat, a natural cat litter product, manufactures plant-based, biodegradable litter made from sustainably sourced natural fibre that is also free from harmful chemicals, artificial fragrances, toxic dyes, strip-mined clay, or silica.

Healthy Pet’s marketing head Jane Wasley said: “Interestingly, very few natural brands are meeting natural litter consumers’ wants on packaging, with many still being in heavy non-recyclable, non-biodegradable plastic bags or polypouches.”

In May this year, Berry Global Group partnered with Peel Plastic Products and ExxonMobil to integrate the use of circular plastics for food packaging into the pet care industry.
