Food packaging manufacturer Pactiv has announced an $8m investment to expand its facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, US.

Developed together with NC Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the expansion in Guilford County will generate up to 25 new jobs.

In addition, the North Carolina Community College System, Guilford Technical Community College, Guilford County Economic Development Alliance, Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, City of Greensboro and other organisations contributed to the project.

Pactiv Operations vice-president Fred Mooney said: “It is important for us to grow in areas where there is both a good business climate and an available and skilled workforce.

“We have found Greensboro, North Carolina to be such a place. Thank you to the City of Greensboro and the State of North Carolina for their continued support of our growth.”

The expansion project will be supported by One North Carolina Fund’s performance-based grant of $50,000.

This fund requires companies to initially meet certain capital investment targets and employment goal to obtain the funding.

North Carolina commerce secretary Anthony Copeland said: “North Carolina is the second-largest state for food and beverage processing.

“When North Carolina companies grow their operations in our state, it confirms the strength of our strong business climate, convenient location and capable workforce.”

Salaries in the facility will be subject to positions, but the average wage for all new positions will be $48,200.

Established in 1965, Pactiv specialises in manufacturing and distributing quality foodservice packaging products. In addition to packaging, the company is one of the major foodservice providers in North America.
