US firm PCI Pharma Services has signed an agreement to partner with CSP Technologies for US clinical trials and to undertake stability testing using the latter’s Activ-Blister packaging solutions.
Activ-Blister is designed to offer protection and to support speed-to-market for pharmaceutical and medical device products that are vulnerable to moisture and gases, especially oxygen.
It controls the internal atmosphere of individual blister cavities and enables improved stability and enhanced shelf life.
Activ-Blister solutions use silica gel and molecular sieve technology to absorb moisture, oxygen and other gases. They can be tailored to accommodate any tablet or capsule.
Moreover, they can be used with various blister packaging formats, such as push-through blisters, peel/push blisters, cold-form foils and high-barrier films containing Aclar laminates.
PCI Clinical Services senior vice-president Bob Misher said: “With the pressure on pipeline development to reduce lead-times and reduce drug development costs, coupled with a growing focus on specialised medicines, our clients are challenged to get products through clinical phases and into commercialisation more quickly than ever before.
