Canadian quick-service provider Pizza Pizza has introduced a new packaging design with additional safety features.

Tamper Proof Pizza Box features a safety locking mechanism that must be broken by the customer to access the pizza inside.

The box is designed to ensure the pizza is untouched until it reaches the customer.

The company has started delivering with the new packaging and plans to make the boxes available in all sizes at all 420 restaurants across the country by the end of this month.

Pizza Pizza CEO Paul Goddard said: “The health and safety of our customers, staff and franchise operators has always been our top priority.

“Our team has been working tirelessly to adapt to the recent health crisis, so that we can continue to provide safe and secure service to Canadians. We are pleased to be able to offer a packaging solution that will give our customers added confidence in knowing their food is protected and safe.”

Last month, Pizza Pizza launched contactless delivery to maintain social distancing amid the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. Customers can pre-pay and tip their drivers for online orders.

Additionally, the company has been engaged in feeding frontline health care workers and community shelters amid the crisis since 20 March.

Pizza Pizza operates more than 750 locations across Canada. The company also runs two banners – Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73.

In January this year, the company launched Keto Uncrust in partnership with Unbun Foods at more than 420 Pizza Pizza locations.
