US-based soft drink bottler Polar Beverages will upgrade its carbonated drinks lines with Closure Systems International’s (CSI’s) lightweight Omni mini XP 28mm linerless bottle caps.

The ultra lightweight caps are made using fully recyclable polyethylene resin, and are said to deliver superior application and product performance for sparkling drinks. The seal design of CSI’s Omni mini XP ensures carbon dioxide performance across the widest range of conditions.

Compatible with the 1881 bottle finish, the caps deliver maximum source reduction, reduced carbon footprint and reduce total cost of operations, while improving environmental sustainability.

Polar Beverages executive vice president and operations manager Chris Crowley said: "We only make process changes when the quality and integrity of our products are enhanced and our customers or the communities in which we live directly benefit. Converting to CSI’s Omni mini XP closures helped achieve all those goals."

The precision-engineered Omni mini XP will improve capping application performance, resulting in lower defect rates. Its design cuts down misapplied caps, reduces colour dimensional variability and accommodates bottling line speed changes easily. The caps weigh less than 2g, and will enable bottlers to achieve higher productivity.

As part of the conversion project, Polar Beverages installed upgrades to the company’s capping equipment and monitored the line-trial testing.
