American protective packaging materials provider Pregis has further strengthened its foam manufacturing capabilities with the acquisition of Michigan-based firm Rex Performance Products (RPP).
Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed by either company.
The acquisition will see the addition of 100,000ft of manufacturing space and 150,000ft of warehouse space to the Pregis network.
Pregis president and CEO Kevin Baudhuin said: “The acquisition strengthens Pregis’ position as a leading North American producer of engineered foam.
“We will now have five engineered foam manufacturing locations and a vast warehousing network across the continent to serve fabricators. The combined organisation will offer customers an expanded portfolio of protective packaging solutions.”
Established in 2011, RPP provides laminated foam products that are used as protective packaging for a wide variety of products and markets.
The RPP product portfolio includes polyethylene foam and laminated planks with a wide range of performance attributes, including thermal performance and flame-resistance, as well as multi-density and anti-static capabilities.
Upon completion of the deal, RPP’s president and chief executive officer Don Tate will join Pregis and will be leading the combined engineered foam business.
Over the past four years, Pregis has acquired four firms, namely Sharp Packaging, 3M Company’s PolyMask protective films business, Easypack paper-based protective packaging systems and Eagle Film Extruders, under the ownership of Olympus Partners.
RPP will be the fifth acquisition for Pregis in the past four years.
Baudhuin added: “We view the Rex Performance Products organisation and their employees as a perfect fit within Pregis. We believe our combined product offering, enhanced foam technology and our teams’ knowledge strengthen our position as a valued partner to our customers.”
Headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, Pregis offers new protective packaging materials, equipment systems and surface protection solutions.
The company develops packaging solutions for consumer and industrial market segments such as food, pharmaceutical, medical devices, agricultural, retail, automotive, transportation, furniture, construction, and military/aerospace.
