Making the Packaging System Fit the Circular Economy

For the packaging industry to achieve a sustainable future, it needs to dramatically increase circularity and the reuse of materials. While shifting from a linear economy to a circular model will take time, there are already actions that brands, manufacturers, and converters can already take to help make a difference. This document by Siegwerk – a global leader in inks and coatings for packaging – delves into solving the plastic paradox, looks at the relevance of bioplastics, and sets out ways to not only achieve circularity in packaging but also make it economically viable. Furthermore, the document goes into detail on how printing inks and coatings are vital for enabling circularity in packaging. Ultimately, the packaging system needs to be reconfigured for a circular future. And consumers are expecting the packaging industry to play its part in progress. The company said the 105,000ft² facility will help it meet increasing customer demand.

Premier will relocate to the facility from its current operations in Victor, New York, by the end of the year.

Once operational, the new facility will increase the company’s workforce by more than 50%.

Premier president and DSS chief operating officer Jason Grady said: “We are grateful to Empire State Development (ESD), Greater Rochester Enterprise and the New York Power Authority for providing Premier with an opportunity to advance our business.

“As a multinational company, we had several options when considering a new location, but with the help of ESD and New York State, we can continue to call this area home.

“The Upstate New York and Finger Lakes region is an ideal place for us to operate our business, service our customer base and further expand our offerings.”

Premier operations vice-president Bruce Stratton said: “We continue to build on our momentum amidst growing customer demand.

“With greater access to major interstates nearby and a closer proximity to the strong Rochester workforce, the new manufacturing operation is well-suited to support our aggressive growth plans.”

Premier received up to $700,000 in Excelsior tax credits from ESD in exchange for commitments to generate jobs.

Monroe County and Greater Rochester Enterprise also provided the company with assistance commitments.

Premier provides security solutions for printing and packaging serving customers in the direct marketing, medical device, consumer goods, photo marketing and food industries.
