Flexible packaging manufacturer ProAmpac has commenced construction of an advanced Collaboration & Innovation Centre (CIC) in Rochester, New York, US.

The company’s existing pouch manufacturing facility in the location has both ISO class 4 and ISO class 7 clean-room certifications.

The new 25,000ft² facility will facilitate the company’s international hub for packaging design and development.

ProAmpac CEO Greg Tucker said: “Innovation is the key factor in making flexible packaging the fastest-growing segment of the expanding global packaging industry, which is forecast to exceed $1tn by the end of next year.

“The benefit of having all of our application testing, prototyping and short-run pouch production under one roof is that a customer can arrive with a packaging design issue and leave with printed, prototype samples.

“Our new facility will compress the design timeline significantly.”

In addition to packaging development and design, the facility will host regional and global consumer packaged goods companies and vendors for events and training.

Being built with an investment of nearly $8m, the centre will generate 40 new jobs and is expected to open in early 2021.

The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Hochul, along with other officials from New York State, Monroe County and local jurisdictions.

Governor Cuomo said: “ProAmPac’s expansion is a true testament to our forward-thinking economic strategy that is fostering innovation and transforming the regional economy, creating top-quality jobs.

“By incentivising this successful companies’ continued growth we are strengthening the economy and creating good-paying jobs in Monroe County and across the state as we continue our mission to build back better.”

Last month, ProAmpac introduced the online configurator named as MAKR, to remotely design solutions.
