UK-based Proseal has developed a semi-automatic tray sealing machine, GTR-E, for skin-deep packs.
The first customer to use the machine is Rhug Estate, an organic farm run by Lord Newborough in Wales, UK.
Suitable for packing large pieces of meat and joints, the new Proseal GTR-E has been designed to seal products that sit up to 100mm above the edge of the tray.
GTR-E wraps the packaging film tightly around the meat to extend the shelf life of the product, while eliminating the need for gas flushing.
Rhug Estate cutting plant manager Gary Jones said: "We needed a tray sealing machine that would ensure our high quality meat was both presented and protected effectively, in order to reach our customers in premium condition.
"With limited space available in our packing operation, we approached Proseal to help us come up with an appropriate solution.
"The GTR-E meets our requirements, and we have been delighted with the high standard of service from Proseal and the reliability and efficiency of the machine."
Apart from skin-deep packs, GTR-E can also seal several other pack types, including standard, gas-flushed and ordinary skin pack trays.
GTR-E machine features Proseal’s new E-seal technology, a high-precision, high-force system that creates a tight and reliable seal while reducing compressed air usage by more than 90%, thus delivering energy and cost savings.
The machine’s semi-automatic operation makes it suitable for small-scale enterprises, which do not need a fully automatic in-line tray sealer.
Unlike conventional manual machines, the rotary operation of the GTR-E allows a new tray to load while the previous one is being sealed.
