Switzerland-based machinery and services supplier BOBST has announced the sale of two of its EXPERT K5 2450mm metallisers to Indonesian packaging materials manufacturer PT Indopoly Swakarsa Industry.

The installation of these machines will take place by the end of this year.

BOBST said it will install one metalliser at PT’s production site in Indonesia while the second machine will be equipped at Suzhou Kunlene Film Industries, PT’s subsidiary in China.

Both machines are identical and feature a wide range of innovations and technologies, including BOBST’s AlOx GEN II and AluBond processes.

The service supplier claimed that its 15-year-old AlOx process has proven itself as a successful solution in the packaging market, primarily for manufacturing polyethylene terephthalate films.

Building on the foundations of this process, the company introduced its latest version, ‘AlOx GEN II’, at the end of 2019 in order to address the rising demands for sustainable and transparent films with high barrier properties.

AlOx GEN II was primarily developed for the biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) market.

The company added that AlOx GEN II has a high potential for a completely recyclable transparent barrier PP monomaterial packaging solution.

The AluBond process, also designed for BOPP films, is a standard metallising approach for polyolefin-based PP substrates. It provides better adhesion levels and improved dyne level retention on all substrates.

Furthermore, the new machines will feature a 700mm diameter coating drum, Hawkeye inline optical density deposition control, a defect monitoring system, a post-plasma unit, as well as a high rate source.

PT Indopoly Swakarsa Industry vice-president and director Jeffrey Halim said: “This is the first time we have bought metallisers from BOBST but with their AluBond and AlOx processes, they were able to meet our requirements for high barrier films with good dyne level retention.

“The two machines will be installed at our production sites by the end of the year and we hope this is the start of a new relationship with BOBST.”
