RPC Barrier Containers will supply new casserole-styled thermoformed barrier plastic tray for French ready meal producer Gendreau Group and its subsidiary VIF.

Produced in multilayer PP/EVOH/PP structure, the dual-coloured trays will provide the products an extended ambient shelf life of 12 months.

The trays have a capacity of 350g to provide a larger family-size portion.

RPC Bebo Plastik has developed the new trays in partnership with the Gendreau development and marketing teams.

A total of €100,000 has been invested in the development of this project.

"The containers are a very good example of the innovative styles of plastic packaging that can be created for brand owners to enable products to have stand-out appeal on shelf."

RPC Barrier Containers area sales manager Nicolas Grange said: "The containers are a very good example of the innovative styles of plastic packaging that can be created for brand owners to enable products to have stand-out appeal on shelf."

The new containers are part of Gendreau's launch of a range of country-style, ready meal recipes, which will be available in three varieties, including Charolais beef and carrots in sauce, Montbéliard sausage and vegetable hotpot, and Aveyron and Ségala veal Marengo.

To be sold under the La Cuisine d'Océane brand, Gendreau's ready meals are said to be free from artificial colours and flavours.

RPC Barrier Containers is a part of the RPC Group that was established in 1991. The group currently employs more than 11,100 people at its 55 operations in 19 countries and has annual sales in excess of £1bn.
