Global sustainable food packaging solutions provider Sabert has introduced its new patented recyclable and compostable paper cutlery range, called EcoEdge.

The pressed paperboard cutlery range has been designed to offer a sustainable and viable alternative for eco-conscious consumers and industries who wish to replace their plastic cutlery.

It is suitable for use by restaurants, supermarkets, entertainment venues, colleges and universities, and caterers via other foodservice providers.

EcoEdge cutlery has been made using Forest Stewardship Council-(FSC) certified renewable resources and is in compliance with all the required regulatory standards for compostability.

This cutlery line is also free from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and can be recycled alongside paper waste streams.

The range comprises a sturdy spoon, serrated knife and sharp fork.

The spoon comes with an ample spoon bowl and can be used for taking full scoops of parfaits and other food items.

All three cutlery items are grease resistant and have high neck strength.

The EcoEdge line is said to offer the same durability as its plastic counterparts and can easily contain liquids of varying temperatures, up to 212°F. It also won’t affect the flavour of the food items themselves.

These qualities make it a suitable alternative for a wide range of food items such as ice cream, green salad protein dishes, soups, pies, and oatmeal, the company says.

Sabert Marketing & New Product Development vice-president Stephny S Halstead said: “Our EcoEdge Paper Cutlery is a tremendous success in the European market due to its durability, strength and functionality.

“The initial positive feedback from our customers has shown that our paper cutlery far surpasses the performance of wood, bamboo and other plant-based alternative cutlery solutions.

“We are thrilled to bring this innovation to North America, which aligns with our purpose of reinventing food packaging to nourish and protect our world.”
