UK-based retailer Sainsbury’s has selected a new shelf ready pack (SRP) produced by European corrugated packaging company Smurfit Kappa, for its own-brand sliced cheese ranges.

The new SRP replaces a vacuum formed plastic tray with a corrugated pack and is part of the mainstream of food merchandising.

Sainsbury’s Smurfit Kappa retail project coordinator Adam Clark said the company’s move to 100% FSC and PEFC certification in 2010 allows them to offer Sainsbury’s new sustainable packaging solutions.

"The new ONDI SRP has been developed to meet a brief to reinvigorate a product range where poor presentation was the result of lacklustre design," Clark said.
