Schreiner Group’s pharmaceutical labels manufacturing unit Schreiner MediPharm has announced a new partnership with US-based paperboard pharmaceutical packaging company Keystone Folding Box.

As part of this collaboration, Schreiner MediPharm has developed a new extension for Keystone Folding Box’s existing ‘Key-Pak’ wallet range, designed for oral solid dose medication.

The Key-Pak wallet card is a new child-resistant ‘smart’ blister packaging solution developed by Keystone Folding Box.

It uses a push-through safety feature to ensure that patients can easily access each dose.

Under the latest development, Schreiner MediPharm has now added new electronic functions to the Key-Pak wallet for medication adherence monitoring, which is claimed to have various benefits.

The addition of integrated electronics has converted Keystone Folding Box’s blister packaging into a real-time e-diary, which can keep track of dosing history data.

The integrated smart extension solution, which now combines a child-resistant paperboard package with digital adherence monitoring technology, can be customised as per the specific requirements.

One of the key characteristics of the Key-Pak wallet, according to Schreiner MediPharm, is the integration of conductive trace patterns.

These patterns are linked to each cavity present on the wallet card, which helps in generating data as soon as the patient removes a dose from the Key-Pak wallet.

All the required crucial details related to the time and date of dose removal as well as the specific cavity location can be found within the electronics available inside the package.

Users can share this data using near-field communication or Bluetooth technology to further get accurate patient compliance tracking details.

Another feature offered in the smart Key-Pak extension is the option to send medication dosing reminders to the patients, as well as to change or adjust the therapy plan as per specific needs.

Schreiner MediPharm highlighted that this solution, when incorporated with special software, can also help in data documentation and analysis and central tracking.
