Sibeg, the official bottler of the Coca-Cola Company in Sicily, has collaborated with Sidel to introduce its first aseptic PET bottling line at its production facility in Catania, Italy.

The newly commissioned line has a capacity of 18,000 bottles per hour and incorporates Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis, EvoFilm Stretch, and PalKombi systems.

This enables Sibeg to bring the manufacturing of sensitive beverages in-house, a process previously outsourced to co-packers.

The development is part of Sibeg’s broader environmental strategy, which targets zero emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 [from sources it owns or controls, and which are a consequence of its activities but from sources not owned or controlled by it] by 2030 and complete carbon neutrality by 2032.

Sibeg CEO Luca Busi stated: “This move reflects our strategic effort to both expand our product portfolio and enhance flexibility in meeting customer demands, while also cutting down on pollution from truck transport from Northern Italy, further reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.

“Sidel and Sibeg share a long-standing partnership, with a complete line previously supplied for carbonated soft drink packaging. Once again, Sibeg places its trust in Sidel, this time for aseptic production, relying on its well-known expertise to ensure the highest levels of product safety. The complete aseptic PET line will enable us to diversify into energy drinks and tea production.”

The dry preform decontamination process used in the Aseptic Combi Predis employs a hydrogen peroxide mist, helping lower the consumption of water, energy and chemicals while maintaining product safety and shelf life.

The system also provides production flexibility across ten beverage formats, including energy drinks and teas.

Sidel’s EvoFilm Stretch replaces conventional shrink-wrapping, cutting plastic usage by up to 60% and energy consumption by 90%.

Sibeg has also adopted Sidel’s Evo-ON Flex digital tool to optimise bottle changeovers, offering real-time oversight of production and reducing downtime.

Sibeg chose Sidel as its single supplier for the project based on the company’s track record in aseptic packaging technology.

Founded in 1960, Sibeg employs 400 people and runs eight production lines for soft drinks, energy beverages and water, supplying more than 24,500 outlets across Sicily.

Sidel introduced new EvoBLOW Laser technology at Drinktec 2025, which took place from 15 September to 19 September at the Munich Trade Fair, Germany.

The new solution set a new standard for performance within the food and beverage packaging sector, specifically in the lightweighting of PET and recycled PET (rPET).  Laser tech enables the creation of lighter and stronger containers.
