Located in Rjukan, Norway, it manufactures laminated tubes for food and personal care applications.

Scandinavia and Western Europe are Heger’s main geographical markets. It employs 17 people and generated a turnover of Nkr35m last year.

Bergen is presently managed by CEO Jan-Atle Ellingsen while subsidiary Heger is controlled by managing director Tom Mårtensson.

Both companies’ current management will now progress under the ownership of Skanem.

Skanem CEO Maryne Lemvik said: “Both Bergen Plastics and Heger have multiple growth possibilities, through the development of new products and new customers. It will be key to target applications where plastic is the only or best solution.

“We also see the possibility to make a difference by making plastic packaging more sustainable.”

The deal is anticipated to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.

Norway-based Skanem is said to have held a presence in the packaging and labelling market for a century.

In the last few years, it has been focused on label and product decoration in Asia and Africa.

In 2021, Skanem sold its businesses in Europe and Thailand while retaining its presence in India and East Africa.

With this latest deal, however, it is re-entering the European packaging market.
