Irish corrugated packaging company Smurfit Kappa has expanded its range of Bag-in-Box packaging solutions by launching a Thermo Bag.
Bag-in-Box is a disposable packaging solution suitable for liquid, semi-liquid food and non-food products.
The Thermo Bag has been designed to adhere to the specifications of a hot filling processing method involving pressing, filtering, pasteurising, heating and filling the product at a high temperature to enable sterilisation.
The product is then immediately cooled for preservation and taste.
The benefits of this method, which is widely used in the production of fresh apple juice, include shelf life extension, elimination of harmful microorganisms, and cost reduction.
According to Smurfit, consumers and producers prefer Bag-in-Box packaging because it is an eco-friendly and cost-efficient option, which maintains the product’s quality.
Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box CEO Thierry Minaud said: “Thanks to their low carbon footprint and extended shelf life, our Bag-in-Box products offer a more sustainable choice of packaging for many industries and Smurfit Kappa relentlessly continues to develop higher performance materials for the drinks market.”
“The Thermo Bag is bringing competitive advantage to producers and enhanced quality to consumers.”
Smurfit Kappa’s innovative new Thermo Bag is a barrier bag made using special coextruded PE film, including MDPE for thermo-resistance, LLDPE for flexibility, and EVOH for oxygen barrier.
