MM Packaging has collaborated with Henkel, KURZ and baries design on a new version of the Syoss OLEO INTENSE hair colour carton, with the project centred on changes to surface finish and structure, according to a press release on WhatTheyThink.

The work focused on translating the idea of a single drop of oil into the pack design, using light, texture and layered visual effects.

The original concept was developed by the packaging design team at baries design in Düsseldorf, Germany, which called for a pronounced three-dimensional result.

Syoss Color & Masterbrand / Henkel consumer brands senior brand innovation manager Silvia Quattrini said: “With this new Syoss Oleo Intense packaging, we wanted to make the oil-based formula visible and tangible for consumers.”

To achieve this, Kurz’s TRUSTSEAL SFX technology was used to address the technical demands of the design and support high-volume production.

The finish was applied across the carton surface to create a visual effect intended to resemble the look and movement of cosmetic oil.

MM Packaging oversaw the production stage of the project, which was completed over eight weeks.

The manufacturing process included two hot-stamping steps, along with cutting, creasing and glueing, to produce a cartonboard pack made from responsibly sourced material.

MM Packaging European key account manager Alexandra Alagic commented: “Delivering such a complex design within an eight-week lead time required close coordination across all partners and very precise production planning.

“The combination of two hot stamping applications, precise printing and flawless cutting and creasing, was essential to achieving the final visual and tactile effect.”
