TekniPlex Consumer Products has announced its plans to open a new speciality moulded fibre manufacturing facility in Ohio, US.

The new 200,000ft² plant has been opened as part of the company’s initiative to further provide a substantial push to its moulded fibre solutions and offerings.

This facility will further bring TekniPlex’s overall recent investments in the moulded fibre sector to approximately $350m.

The Ohio-based site will be TekniPlex’s eighth production facility in the speciality moulded fibre sector.

It is expected to start operating early next year. The company’s plans also include potential expansion of this facility in the future.

TekniPlex Fibre business vice-president and general manager Jay Arnold said: “We are excited to continue to bring new technology with our speciality moulded fibre solutions expansion including our high-performance egg carton, which provides superior egg protection to our customers, reducing food waste and cost.”

This dedicated speciality moulded fibre facility will help the company in strengthening its capabilities to offer sustainable solutions for a wide range of products, such as egg cartons.

The moulded fibre egg cartons can provide stronger, better-quality and safer solutions to safeguard the eggs.

Moulded fibre is derived from 100% natural recycled paper and cardboard fibres. The renewable biobased material will help in addressing the needs of several brands that seek to adopt biobased packaging solutions for their products.

In the last 14 months, TekniPlex has acquired various companies that produce speciality moulded fibre solutions, including Keyes Packaging Group of Wenatchee in Washington, US, and EMATEC, which operates five fibre-manufacturing plants across Mexico.

TekniPlex Consumer Products CEO Eldon Schaffer said: “The new facility will combine TekniPlex’s fibre capabilities with technology platforms obtained through our recent strategic acquisitions.”
