UK-based protective packaging provider Macfarlane Packaging has launched a new range of boxes for the growing online retail industry.

The newly launched range comprises tailored garment boxes and packaging for soft furnishings, books and candles.

Designed to serve various online retail sectors, the new recyclable box range is easy to open and offers high protection.

The new range will also enable online retailers to increase their packing speed and meet pre-Christmas demand.

Macfarlane Packaging marketing director Laurel Granville said: “As packaging professionals, we know that our customers are looking for ways to speed-up their packing process while achieving a high-quality customer unpacking experience.

“This is peak time for retailers so it’s even more important that their customers have a great experience when they receive their online order and our exciting new range has been specifically designed to deliver this.”

New research conducted by the company in July revealed that around 30% of parcels dispatched by UK online retailers could be unfit for purpose.

Around 10% of packaged content is damaged due to bad packaging.

The study also found that 84% of the packages were judged to be clean, while 80% were dry, 15% were dented, 8% were crushed, and 8% were ripped.

According to the research, 4% of the packages sent by online retailers appeared to have been opened or tampered with during transit.
