US-based Clearwater Paper has purchased paperboard sales, sheeting and distribution supplier Manchester Industries from PaperWorks Industries for $68.25m.

With five facilities located in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Texas and Michigan, Manchester Industries serves the packaging and commercial print sectors.

Clearwater Paper president and CEO Linda Massman said: "Manchester Industries offers an excellent range of converting services that include custom sheeting, slitting, and cutting.

"These five plants are expected to be a valuable asset for Clearwater Paper."

The company currently produces consumer tissue, away-from-home tissue, parent roll tissue, bleached paperboard and pulp at several manufacturing facilities across the US.

In addition, Clearwater Paper produces bleached paperboard for printers and packaging converters.

In 2014, the company divested its speciality product business and mills to Dunn Paper.

The deal features five Clearwater Paper subsidiaries with facilities in Connecticut, Michigan, New York, Mississippi in the US, as well as St. Catharines in Ontario, Canada.

Last month, Clearwater Paper announced its plan to shut down its converting facility in Oklahoma City, US.

The company is also planning to close two tissue machines at its facility in Neenah, Wisconsin, US.
