Finnish company Valmet has received two new orders from pulp and paper company SCA for improving the fibre line at SCA’s Obbola mill in Sweden.

The orders’ value have not been disclosed by the companies and will be delivered as two separate improvement projects.

The two projects also support SCA’s earlier investments.

Valmet said that both orders were received in the first quarter of the current year.

The initial installation under the project orders is expected to take place during the Obbola facility’s shutdown in May 2023.

As part of the new orders, Valmet will be required to rebuild a Valmet ImpBin chip impregnation system that will allow the company to conduct a thorough impregnation of the chips with liquor before the final cooking.

It will further help in increasing overall pulp production at SCA’s Swedish plant in a more stable and energy-efficient manner.

The company will also install Valmet Wash Filter Hoods that are made using ‘strong and durable’ glass-fibre reinforced plastic that is also lightweight.

Once installed, the new wash filter hoods will help in enhancing the Obbola paper mill’s safety with regular maintenance efforts and annual shutdowns.

The new filter hoods are scheduled to be installed in 2024.

Valmet Europe, Middle East, and Africa corporate account manager Andreas Lindstedt said: “We have developed an excellent customer relationship with the SCA Obbola mill over the years and are happy to continue our good cooperation.

“These orders continue SCA Obbola’s extensive investments in the mill’s fibre line and show SCA’s trust in Valmet’s expertise and ability to improve their performance.

“Through the long-term partnership Valmet is able to contribute to the continuous development of all SCA’s mills.”
