Avery Dennison has released Pathfinder Edge, a new handheld label printer that combines scanning, printing and label application in a single device.
The product is for use by retailers and logistics operators on shop floors and in warehouses.
Pathfinder Edge is designed to support a range of tasks, including price marking, markdowns and routing labels.
Avery Dennison said the device can print up to 50% faster than the previous model and operate for up to 25% longer on a single charge.
The device includes a quick-scan trigger for barcode reading in high-volume settings, a simplified interface that aims to reduce training time, and connectivity options such as near-field communication (NFC), Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth.
It also has predictive monitoring to identify potential issues before breakdowns occur.
In parcel delivery operations, the company said quicker and more accurate print-and-apply processes can raise throughput and reduce routing errors and failed deliveries, while limiting training needs for temporary staff.
In clothing and general retail, the device is designed to support reticketing and markdown activity. In food and grocery settings, Avery Dennison said markdown management can help cut waste and improve shelf availability.
Avery Dennison said later models in the line will include radio frequency identification (RFID) functions, with planned uses in inventory management, freshness tracking and reticketing.

In December, Avery Dennison entered a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Institute of Packaging to introduce a Management Development Programme aimed at mid-level professionals in the packaging industry.
