Sustainable packaging company NBCo has become the newest member of the Bottle Collective, aimed at developing and scaling dry-moulded fibre packaging for beauty and personal care products.

The Bottle Collective initiative is led by PulPac and PA Consulting,

NBCo, which works with fibre-based sustainable materials, joins existing participants Diageo, Opella (formerly Sanofi), Haleon and Logoplaste in the collaboration.

NBCo CEO and founder Alvin Lim stated: “We’re now looking to push both dry and wet bottles as part of our portfolio. The Bottle Collective is a natural extension of our mission to scale regenerative fibre systems.

“By combining PulPac’s innovation with our manufacturing expertise, we can broaden what’s possible for fibre bottles and bring circular packaging to more brands around the world.”

The group is a collaborative ecosystem, focused on speeding up the development of commercially viable fibre-based bottle systems.

Citing The Courage to Change Report, the announcement notes that the beauty industry produces more than 120 billion packaging units each year, with a significant share going to landfill.

The sector is responsible for one-third of global landfill waste, while 70% of its plastic waste is not recycled.

The Bottle Collective has been set up to support brands in moving towards fibre-based bottle solutions that meet design and performance expectations while aiming to lower their environmental footprint.

PulPac and PA Consulting formed the Bottle Collective to bring together brand owners, manufacturers and technology providers to push forward the commercial roll-out of dry-moulded fibre bottles at scale.

NBCo specialises in fibre-based packaging and runs a decentralised manufacturing network designed to enable local production, cut transport-related emissions and support scaleable supply arrangements.

PA Consulting is an innovation and transformation consultancy employing more than 4,000 specialists across various sectors, with offices in the UK, US, the Netherlands and the Nordics.

PulPac is the developer of dry-moulded fibre, characterised as an industrial fibre-forming technology intended for high-speed, resource-efficient packaging production, delivered through a global network of partners and licensees.
