Panesar Foods has introduced automated shrink-wrapping machinery at its plant in the West Midlands, UK, with the equipment supplied by Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS).

Established in 1992, Panesar Foods makes spices and sauces for a wide range of customers. The business produces 12,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) across more than 750 stock keeping units (SKUs).

In October 2024, Panesar Foods was acquired by Paulig. The two businesses had worked together for 17 years before the deal.

As demand has risen, Panesar Foods incorporated inline and side-feed sleeve sealing machines from YPS for trays of curry sauce jars.

Since the factory handles a wide product mix and regular SKU changes, the ability to carry out quick and straightforward changeovers was an important factor in the selection process.

The new YPS lines are said to enable staff to move between tray sizes and product formats more efficiently.

In addition, YPS’s in-house engineering resources were outlined as a factor behind the repeat purchase.

The installation was carried out through an engineer-led process to connect the machinery to existing production lines while limiting disruption.

YPS also delivered operator training and continues to provide technical support to the manufacturer.

Panesar Foods engineering manager Stephen Ansell said: "We already had YPS lines on site and had found them extremely reliable. The machines deliver the fast changeovers we need, and YPS’ in-house engineering support – from installation through to training and ongoing service – made them the natural choice for this next stage of growth."
