Rayonier Advanced Materials (RYAM) has launched an enhanced freezer application for its folding carton board, tailored for the packaging requirements of the frozen food industry.

The offering was developed at the company’s Temiscaming facility in Canada.

Part of RYAM's Kallima folding grade line, it provides the structural durability and performance needed for cold-chain distribution.

The board is designed to endure temperatures down to -18°C (0°F), while preserving its integrity and avoiding delamination under freezer conditions.

It achieves moisture resistance without the need for extra coatings or plastic extrusion treatments, which contributes to lower costs and simplifies converting.

This folding carton board suits a range of frozen food uses, including ready meals and protein trays.

It is produced using fibre from responsibly sourced, certified forests and includes a print surface suitable for graphics.

RYAM senior vice-president for paperboard and high yield pulp Ken Duffy stated: “Our enhanced freezer application is a direct response to customer needs.

“It empowers converters with a freezer-ready solution that performs reliably while remaining easy to convert — helping brands stay competitive without adding production complexity.”

RYAM maintains manufacturing operations in the US, Canada and France. The company recorded $1.6bn in revenue for 2024.

Its portfolio encompasses cellulose-based technologies such as high-purity cellulose specialities applied in filters, food, and pharmaceuticals, along with products serving the paper and packaging sectors.
